Calming The Mind

MINDFUL BREATHING

  • Mindful Breathing is a practice that involves paying attention and relating to our breathing with kindness and gentleness. It's useful for calming the mind and developing a positive mental attitude.

  • Anchoring our attention on breathing is useful to stay calm when we're facing distressing situations, thoughts, and feelings.

C. Mindful Breathing: Deepening The NOW

(A longer version of Mindful Breathing practice)

1. Sit or lie in a comfortable position...

2. Relax - put on a smile on your face and in your heart...

3. Invite your attention to rest on your breathing. Smile to your in and out breaths

4. As you're breathing in and out, use visualization and affirmation to stay positive and happy (see below for examples)

5. Continue the practice for 3, 5, 10 or more minutes...

Breathing in, I'm the tree...

Breathing in, I'm the tree...

Breathing out, I'm kind and wise...

Breathing in, I'm the flowers...

Breathing in, I'm the flowers...

Breathing out, I'm fresh and energized...

Breathing in, I'm the mountain...

Breathing in, I'm the mountain...

Breathing out, I'm strong and emotionally stable...

Breathing in, I'm the lake...

Breathing in, I'm the lake...

Breathing out, I'm calm & peaceful...

Breathing in, I'm the sky...

Breathing in, I'm the sky...

Breathing out, I'm free & easy...

To be mindful is easy; remembering to be mindful is difficult

The MindBell app rings periodically during the day. It can be used as a mindfulness bell to remind us to take a mindful breath. BREATHE...

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths
